Drawing with light:
The 2nd film I'm making is a drawing project
Constellations used by my ancestors to navigate the Pacific ocean
These images represent my whakapapa or ancestry & genealogy.
Ancient indigenous cultures would use repetitive patterns of figures joined by hands, feet or heads to represent the lines of ancestry.
I made ancestral paper figures and turned them into light drawings - I love the heart or Tiki that appeared while I was experimenting with long exposures.
'Moko
Who are you?
I am the grandchild of Grandmother Earth
and who else?
And Grandfather Sky before me.
Now then grandchild,
Recite to us your location information so we can hear....
E moko
Ko wai koe?
Ko au te Mokopuna o Papatuanuku
Me wai atu?
Me Ranginui e tu nei
Tena e moko
Korerotia e to pepeha kia rongo e matou...'
